In the unlikely event of an active shooter incident on campus, the following procedure should be followed.

In the unlikely event of an active shooter incident on campus, the following procedure should be followed.

Scan and asses your situation, consider your options, and act.

  • Run
    • Get our immediately, if you can safely. Call 911 when safe.
    • Follow the directions of responding police.
    • Choose a safe exit, don’t attract the shooter’s attention, protect yourself first before helping others.
  • Hide. Barricade your hiding place.
    • Turn off the lights and cover the windows.
    • Lock the door and barricade it if you can. Improvise if you can’t look the door.
    • Stay out of the line of fire (hiding behind desks)
    • Mute your phone and stay quite – wait for police to come to you.
    • Do not answer the door until you hear an official all clear.
  • Last resort – Fight.
    • Improvise weapons from near objects.
    • Commit to an aggressive physical attack.
    • Stop the threat.
